Art History 1a: Introduction; 1b: Art in World Cultures
Semester A: Analyze the importance and purpose of art by examining periods and movements as well as the various elements and principles used to create it. You will learn how to critique works, apply those techniques to your own creativity, and explore careers in the world of art. Finally, you will learn about prehistoric art, as well as Roman, early Christian, and medieval art, to fully realize how art contributes to culture and civilization.
Semester B: Who is the greatest artist of all time? Is it Leonardo daVinci? Claude Monet? Michelangelo? Pablo Picasso? Is the greatest artist of all time someone whose name has been lost to history? You will learn about some of the greatest artists while also creating art of your own, including digital art. We will explore the basic principles and elements of art, learn how to critique art, and examine some of the traditional art of the Americas, Africa, and Oceania in addition to the development of Western art.
